It’s been a long road. I realized the first thing I had to teach her was the concept of a mistake because honestly most of the stuff she did to say sorry about wasn’t on purpose. She kicked me accidentally after all. So stared modeling the phrase “I made a mistake” and disconnecting that stuff like spilling water was worthy of punishment (which is my parent’s fault). So if she did stuff like that her “punishment” was just to fix it. clean up spills, pick up food you drop, etc. When you hurt people say sorry and say why you’re sorry. She’s ASD, so teaching stuff takes a long time, so it was a true victory when she did it.

Sounds like you are doing awesome. Very well done. It’s really becoming a realization now that whatever I do and how I act she is taking in and beginning to mimic. So internally, I am trying my best to teach her. It’s really strange to be at this point that now I know it’s on me. You hear it over and over again in some form that, children are a product of their parents, well, parenting. I am totally seeing that now. It’s like there are clear moments where you like “Parent Mode: ACTIVATE” and you know that its crucial that you respond to the situation correctly. I am diagnosed with ADHD while not ASD, I can at least understand somewhat where you are coming from

Glad you are here and hope to hear more wins from you in the future!
