I wasn’t expecting it to work, but I didn’t uninstall the app just in case Reddit backtracks or something. I checked and my front-page loads like normal. Does that mean that Reddit gave up? I didn’t pay infinity at all…

I think the developer is temporarily funding use of Reddit’s API until he gets the update ready for the subscription only version of the app. Not sure how long that will take.
Oh, if that’s the case, I will be sure to uninstall the app; I wouldn’t want her to be financially burdened now by someone like me who has no intention of paying for the service in the future.
That’s both noble and sad at the same time.
I love(d) Infinity, but Reddit has shown their true colors and the dev is knowingly getting into an abusive relationship. Even with the subscription model, most of that is going to Reddit and not the dev team.
I wish them the best, but I don’t see how this is going to end well. Hope they come to their senses before losing too much money and would love to see Infinity for Lemmy.
I don’t think it’s a case of unknowingly going into an abusive relationship with Reddit, I think it’s a case of not having a day job, and therefore being unable to just quit Reddit cold turkey. I don’t know for sure, but I would be surprised if any 3PA dev trusts Reddit at this point.
I don’t think that’s the case as other 3rd party apps like boost are still working as well, they might be doing the same thing though
edit: did a little digging but all I could find was this post https://www.reddit.com/r/Infinity_For_Reddit/comments/14nl2kv/infinity_will_still_be_free_to_use_until_the/
