Fall is a great time to plant native plants. From trees to small herbaceous perennials, planting now will allow your plant more time to get established before the stress of next summer's heat and droughts arrive. You can plant as long as the ground is not frozen. Water new plants (if it doesn't rain) until the ground freezes.
I planted this northern red oak (Quercus rubra) in my backyard to bring home the ecosystem benefits of another native oak. This is a top-tier plant for wildlife in my area, and will support thousands of native insects, birds, and other wildlife. If you have the space for a native oak, I'd definitely recommend planting one!
