I’m having some problems with a dirty flash ROM on my phone, want to clean flash it what is the recommended way to backup my phone , I don’t have root.
Depends, if your phone has a Mediatek SoC this tool worked great for me : https://xdaforums.com/t/backup-full-firmware-rom-of-any-mediatek-device-using-mtk-client-oppo-reno6-5g-mt6877.4406069/
Keep in mind that this is super low level and carries with it a risk of bricking your phone.
Have a snapdragon, thanks for the suggestion!
Qualcomm has a similar tool made by the same person called edl, but it doesn’t work with every phone.
Assuming you are not rooted, you can use adb backup, along with manually backing up your SMS and Call logs, and manually backing up any unsupported apps, like Signal, for example.
Also the userdata partition is encrypted, so a backup of it won’t help much on any encrypted Android phone. You can also backup the envryption key, but I can never remember where that’s stored.
If you are rooted, or if you have an unlocked bootloader and are able to install Magisk, use oandbackup
If you have mediatek SOC, you wont have this issue. They don’t release the source code.
That isn’t an issue anymore really. You can flash GSIs (Generic System Images) if your device supports it and many never MediaTek phones and tablets do. I have done this twice now and it works ok-ish!
Swiftbackup, all ROMs I go to, Swiftbackup stays with me, the first app I install, and has a proper backup solution instead of cringe backup solution that Google offers.
Sadly it requires root, and a proper backup app will always need it, until Android changes its core, which I don’t see happening soon, heck the panorama looks like locking it down even more each day.
Root your phone and have a happy life, I moved from iOS to Android in 2020 and am still using it as a daily driver, I rooted since the first time I installed a custom ROM, no regrets whatsoever.
OP would lose their data while unlocking the bootloader.
He said he wants to dirty flash but he is not able to, so he wants to clean flash to solve whatever issue he is facing, thus makes me think he is already on a custom ROM because there is no way to dirty flash anything without the bootloader opened, that’s why I didn’t bother to specify about this, ofc I could be wrong or he might have the terms mixed or whatever.
I agree, Swift Backup is the best backup app and you don’t need the premium version to backup everything (unless you want to backup something to the cloud)
Neo Backup with special backups (SMS, wifi passwords, wallpaper) enabled. One downside is root requirement.
I’d love to know this too. Backup options on Android (without root) are incredibly lacking, it’s one of the few areas where Apple is leagues ahead and always has been.
I also would like to know. My Moto G 5G suddenly lost fingerprint reader (as in, it’s not even an option in settings anymore) and I think I need to reflash it.
