Hi,
Thought I might post on lemmy about another major Internet outage from Rogers with next to no media coverage (Sept 25, 2023 starting at 2 pm EST). Now I hear if your a Rogers customer with a phone that receives texts then they sent something. But since July 2022 I have not seen any improvement on how they communicate issues.
Why is this a problem:
-
If you buy your internet from a re-seller we receive no notification of the issue or what might becausing it.
-
If I am working remote, I am give no information so I can’t make a decision to drive into work because I don’t know how serious the problem is.
-
Being with a re-seller … you receive no compensation for when the service is down (in this case from 2 pm to now 12:38 am the service is still down.
-
If you have a neighbourhood outage, and your with a re-seller, well the Re-seller has to walk a tight rope with Rogers to get anyone to look at it. Issues drag on for months with no explaination why your service is dropping. Just one day it starts working. To a point where you expect to go down for atleast 1 hour every week.
That being said, if News outlets like CBC, CTV, CityTV are not talking about it or posting, Then we are off to downdetector.ca to see what people are guessing is the real problem.

Inviting my fellow GTA people to add their comments about this round of outages. Espcially since Rogers, Telus are buying up all the competition. Which really means even
As of 9/26/2023 @ 4 pm EST full internet speeds have been restored in Mississauga and Richmond Hill. No word from Rpn the whole incident taking over 24 hours to be addressed.
Earlier this month it was reported by CBC that a company named Xona will be paid 230K by the CRTC to produce a report on the July 2022 outage.

As of Sept 27 @ 5:45 pm the internet is holding steady in Brampton and York Region. No longer disconnecting every 30 seconds. Lets see how long this lasts.
Posts from Downdetector earlier today:
As of Sept 27 @ 8am Rogers in various areas DNS requests (so when you type in a website address) are timing out. So I can’t stay connected at work or stay connected to Office 365, or even stay on instant messanger. Its affecting many people across Ontario.
