Article by ScreenRant: Comic book creator Bill Willingham relinquishes all rights to his hit series “Fables”. In a lengthy statement (included in the article) he cites comic publisher DC’s unfair and neglectful treatment as one of the prime reasons for taking that step, as well as his personal opposition to the current legal copyright framework.

Certified gigachad. Copyright and patent law is crippling invention on a large scale nowadays, which ironically is the exact opposite of what it supposedly should do. It not about protecting small businesses with great ideas anymore, it’s about who can buy up the biggest pile of IP and choke out the competition by sheer size.

    P. S.: Also fuck that cumstain that holds Disco Elysium hostage in particular. I wonder if the DE creators could do something similar like Willingham so at least someone could do something with it.

Nice. The thing I’m particularly amused by is the fact that DC is stuck paying Willingham despite the series being in the public domain. So DC has to watch as everyone else gets to make their own Fables royalty-free while they still have to pay royalties.
