By clinging to American primacy through force and intimidation, Donald Trump is, ironically, undermining US global power. A saboteur trying to subvert US interests from the inside could hardly do better than what he’s accomplished through sheer incompetence.

    Some would say perhaps GWB or RWR are to blame. Some would say the decline was already in effect long before either of them became president. Some might remember when people were talking about a “soft landing” during the Obama years.

    Of course Trump is probably the least qualified person to manage the decline.

      It really illustrates how the decline is self reinforcing in nature. As material conditions get worse, people become more disillusioned, opening the door to opportunists like Trump, who in turn accelerate the whole process.
