Every “independently” wealthy person under 35 on the Internet.

Step 1, have lavishly rich parents

Step 2, use parents money and business networks to make money

Step 3, brag about being humble while also flaunting your wealth.

I don’t think it’s restricted to under 35 and on the internet. I know a 40 something year old that says shit like “my wife and I are so independent and good with our money, we don’t get any handouts. The only gift we get is that her parents pay off our credit cards every Christmas” unironically.

Rich people are so fucking out of touch.

Lol, fair enough. It’s basically impossible nowadays to be comfortable without a little help, even if it’s just systemic in nature.

I’m in my mid-late 30s and doing really well compared to most of the people in my age bracket mostly out of dumb luck and because my dad was in the military.

During the last housing market scare I was able to buy a run down abandoned house for 35k after qualifying for a loan through USAA that I really shouldn’t have ever been approved for. Just stupid little things like that can really make a huge difference in the long run.

I find the cooking one weird, because the food you cook for yourself is usually the best. I know exactly how cheesy I like my pasta sauce, and how big I like the chunks of chicken sliced in my curry, and what ratio of spices I like in my fajitas. I’m not even that good a cook. I can’t imagine having enough money to want to stop doing that.

I’m a pretty good cook and baker, and if all my time was taken up with something that pulled in over $1MM a year, you bet your ass I’d sup at such schmancy-ass establishments … for a few years until I can just retire, then start cooking again with all that knowledge under my belt.

I’ve gotten depressed enough (and my kitchen at my new place is very shit) that I don’t cook that much for myself anymore. My wife still keeps it up sometimes and understands that I hate our closed off kitchen. Also, it’s a simple walk down the street to a food truck or a 2 min car ride to get fun instant ramen then I can make a soft boiled egg.

The money is comfortable but I want to cook more again. I miss it.

“For fun” as in “for travel” or “for visiting people” which is fun. As in the whole “business or pleasure?” type thing people get asked when flying, I think the majority of folks in economy (and maybe all flight) are travelling for pleasure.

As unpleasurable as flight is, it’s typically the best and cheapest option unless not going far or you’re lucky enough to have nice rail options. So it’s still “more fun” than the alternative which might mean extra days of travel time which may even include you actively having to drive.

I’m a 1,90m dude, not particularly slender, bigger than 95% of humans out there. I fly economy most of the time (every time I have to pay for it myself). Sure you don’t get a suite, but what sardines are you talking about? It’s really not that bad. Get some videos on your phone, noise canceling headphones, and it’s just fine. It’s really not worse than my own car, space wise.
