I’m gonna play the armchair psychologist for a moment and say it’s probably related to the moral rebel effect. When people are confronted with someone saying that a group they’re part of of is morally wrong, a lot of them tend to feel threatened and react aggressively. It’s the reason why some many are instinctively aggressive towards vegans.
Basically, when some people see climate protesters reminding them that a lot of everyday choices they make are wrong, they perceive it as a personal attack and jump back to tribalism.
There was this post on tiktok today of some psycho us Marshall ramming protestors vehicles and everyone was like “fuck yeah. Show them who is boss”
I felt really out of place. Like. How is this ok? How is this going to make housing more affordable?
if inconvenience then shoot the messenger
.__.
To be fair, tiktok is faaaar from the smartest and brightest of us.
