This album is a bit of an outlier in My Dying Bride’s discography, but I have a soft spot for it. The opening track is immense and feels like a sequel to “The Cry of Mankind” on “The Angel and the Dark River”. I love the gloomy vibe this album has.
The only My Dying Bride album I can enjoy…
Ah interesting! what is it in this album that’s missing from the others for you?
I really wish they’d kept experimenting. The downtempo/trip hop stuff felt like it goes so naturally with doom metal.
Honestly it was my first exposure to My Dying Bride…and some of the songs are trippy…all their other work I would classify as Theater/symphonic metal not doom metal…At MDF when they played, even their fans stood out like Theater/Drama kids vs the hordes of Death/Grindcore fans there … Just not my thing.
34% Doesn’t have a theater/symphonic metal edge to it.
Not trying to shit on them at all, as they have a huge fan base and are very successful, just not my thing.
The new Green leaf is dope (rerelease of Revolution Rock)
