I’m about to take a long flight and am looking to expand my music library.
EDIT: Thanks so much, everyone! I’ve got 10.5 hours of music on my new playlist thanks to you all!
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. About to release their 27th album and have covered pretty much every genre so no matter what you like, there’s probably a record for you. My favorite is the Flying Yellow Microtonal Banana, full of great tracks, but Billabong Valley has broad appeal.
King gizzard are exceptional, only downside is that it can be a little intimidating with 27 studio albums to choose from for a first listener! Honestly a good method to pick based on what you like is from their album covers, they do a pretty good job summing up what it’ll sound like imo.
The other way to navigate it is if you get into the storyline of the Gizzverse, the fictional universe that is referenced throughout their songs, but not in chronological order. Trying to piece it together has encouraged me to branch out and listen to albums I otherwise might have ignored.
I love KGLW but I don’t like the microtonal stuff.
To each their own. That’s part of what makes KGLW so fascinating. They’re a band that two people with very different musical tastes can both love equally!
Propagandhi - At Peace https://youtu.be/CDhTf3eaeoM
And if you want John K Samson doing indie rock with alt-country influence, the Weakerthans are fantastic. I highly recommend listening to Reconstruction Site straight through.
His solo stuff is great as well.
I was about to suggest this, can’t wait for the album
MF DOOM
“Ask anyone” is a good track about him by lice (Aesop Rock and homeboy sandman).
Such a vast discog, love the King Geedorah record
Sleep Token. New album coming soon too.
Glass Beams
Khruangbin
Machinae Supremacy - Sidology 3 – metal covers of songs from old video games actually also using a SID chip.
I’ve been getting into tech house lately. It’s fun and catchy with really satisfying bass.
Hump Back - 「番狂わせ」(Upset)
/watch?v=zlcn57wdr9E
- Will likely have to watch it through Invidious or a VPN with an exit node in Japan, afaik it region locked to Japan only… ;-;The band was somewhat recently featured on Bocchi the Rock with one of the scenes in the linked video being adapted into the cover page.
*Track from their newer album:
「がらくた讃歌」(Ode to Trash)

Chumbawumba
On the Day the Nazi Died. Good track.
The Rumjacks. Irish punk / rock / folk and very good.
The original singer had some issues, and was replaced by another singer with a great voice :)
All the music on the show Letterkenny is amazing and whoever curated that is a genius. I especially like Peaches, Fuck The Pain Away.
Hell yes, I already several songs from the show on my regular playlists.
It’s just so perfectly selected. Not much music I would normally listen to, but it’s all really lovely to have discovered.
From what I know, Keeso himself is the guy.
Agreed, some of the best music selection for a show of all time.
Don’t sleep on the Shoresy soundtrack either.
I haven’t gotten to Shoresy yet but yes I hear that. Keeso is a gem, should be on stamps. His performances are just meticulously crafted.
Oh man, Letterkenny walked so Shoresy could run. You’re in for a treat.
Also I LOVE that they used French Canadian music on the show! It’s so nice to hear. I will start Shoresy soon, just Letterkenny echoing in my head a bit right now. Sometimes I just play the episodes and only listen because I find the dialogue comforting as I work.
Shoresy is incredibly good. You never expect it to have as much heart as it does considering the main character.
Lol that song has been around forever. Still a banger!
I remember dancing to it at alternative music night at the bar when I was 23.
Colin Stetson is a fantastic ride. He plays instrumental music, but he’s playing lower-pitched instruments *wrong.".
Mics on the keys are picking up rhythmic clicking acting as the percussion. He is sometimes shouting through the instrument. The end result sounds like a chase through the woods in the dark.
I was intrigued by your description but also thought I’d hate it. Gave it a listen and was pleasantly surprised, he’s super talented and his music is totally unique.
I’m glad you like it!
I found him some time ago and it’s great to unwind after a tough day. I’ll play it on my Bluetooth speaker in the shower.

A Speculative Fiction - Propagandhi
Absolute banger, and prophetic no less. But really just everything Propaghandi has put out has been in heavy rotation the last 6 months
Pat the bunny recently came out of retirement and released a new album called Friends in Real Life. It’s quite good, as is pretty much everything he’s ever done.
This.
I got back into Ratatat recently and love the vibes in everything
