I recently discovered Mubi 🇬🇧.
Based in London and founded by Efe Çakarel. Born in Izmir and educated at MIT, he was worried that american streamers were flooding the world with mass Hollywood crap while quality cinema struggled.
Mubi supports and distributes movies from around the world.
On their catalogue, you find some the best award winners from the Cannes Festival, the European Film Festival, the Jerusalem Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival.

Netflix is like going to Pizza Hut.
Mubi is like eating at a Pizzeria owned by a Sicilian family.
Founded in London as a distributor, partnered with Criterion to launch a streaming service, and now Mubi is a US-registered multi-national company.
Man, I am disappointed. I go to the website and it took me ages to find pricing. I had to go to menu > about and only then there is new menu item “membership” where I could see the price. I hate such dark patterns, if they cared they would not hide the price (and I don’t even think its unreasonable price, why hide it…)
Anyway thanks for not mentioning it either 😅
£11.99 a month.
Or theres that Mubi Go, which seems to be Mubi, and a monthly cinema ticket to get bums in seats for independent cinema for £18.99.
You are welcome. 😀
The reason why I wrote how to get there not what is there is that my prices are in CZK I have no idea if they have it priced same only based on exchange rate or based on economic strength of local currencies…
I watch a fella named Thomas Flight and got 6months of Mubi for $6/mo with his promo. Idk if he still has it.
Watched a number of films on there including “The Substance”. I cancelled because $15 is a lot once the promo went out, we’s poor people
I like your enthusiasm, and it definietly looks like a well curated alternative, but is it not co-owned by the american company: Criterion Collection?
I didn’t know that at all.
Is there a way to check who the shareholders are ?
“I recently discovered Mubi” Wow, randomly just bumped into it huh?
Why does it matter? Why do people have to be “I got here first so I’m better than you”?
Christ people can’t share stuff they find cool these days without someone crying ad.
Y’all have PTSD, and I get it.
Definitely not getting paid for this promotion
Hmmm but wait, Britain (or the UK) is not part of the EU.
Besides, they are as anti-privacy and anti-safety as the US, being their good bitch.
The UK is geographically part of Europe. The instance isn’t called Buy EU.
You must have missed that class in school called Geography… 🫠
Oh no I multiclassed it alongside Politics and Literature, which taught me there’s this thing called Context. Which teaches a supposed stream service of a country that is requiring government ID to access media or even web services in general, from a country that historically spreads its legs for the US and does lots of colonialism otherwise, might not be the most palatable thing. Even more when the rest of the US is pointing out they’re gonna help fund VLC.
Are you ok mate?
LOL WTF are you on about? This community is literally called Buy European. If you’d paid any attention in school you’d be able to recognise that the UK is actually part of Europe. So your original comment makes fuck all sense.
and does lots of colonialism otherwise
🤣 Hey Bob what do you fancy doing today? Oh I don’t maybe grab some beers, watch the game, perhaps a little colonialism?
You might also want to rediscover your history lessons about Europe. The UK and pretty much every other country on the continent.
It’s going to be a wake up call the day he learns about Belgium and Congo. Or Spain and Latin America. Or France and Haiti. Or Portugal and south India. Or Andorra and… Nah, you’re cool Andorra, you’re cool.
Requires DRM from Google…
Wait… What ?!
Will assume they’re referring to WideVine
Damn their website is really fast! Optimised to shit!
