    OMG a corporation promised to be a responsible entity towards society and then did the opposite greedy, society harming thing that made them lots of money?! Next thing you’ll tell me, the cow goes moo!

    Almost all corporations, and literally all publically traded corporations conduct themselves as amoral sociopaths with the sole goal of profit to the exclusion and expense of all else. If they didn’t, their shareholders can and would sue them for putting basic decency over short-term profit.

    They’ll tell you what benefits them in the moment, in this case getting concerned citizens off their back, and then do what will benefit/profit them the most that they can get away with, or that they can’t get away with but don’t fear the paltry consequences of relative to the profit they’ll make.
