Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

We use barista oat milk in our coffee, and for us Boring Barista is the nicest of those we’ve tried.

Have never played games since the early ‘80’s when Frogger was the one on Atari!!

Yes, I’m using the Boring Barista one. I generally drink coffee black, but in struggling to get a decaf I like black I’ve started to use the oat milk. In particular, the bourbon aged coffee (not decaf) prepared in about 100ml of water (in an aeropress), then about half a cup of oat milk warmed up in the microwave (I don’t have a fancy milk foaming steam machine). Mix them together and it’s really nice.

It’s interesting though that the coffee seems to layer itself on top of the milk. I have to stir it to mix it in, which is pretty interesting to me.

You could try foaming your milk using a french press.

Basically, you warm your milk up then put it in the french press, and repeatedly plunge it up and down until it foams up. Worked well with oat milk when I tried it.

Edit: this video gives a bunch of tips for imitating espresso without a machine, including using the aeropress to brew your coffee, and a french press for the milk. https://youtu.be/ZgIVfU0xBjA

Honestly just shaking the bottle of milk before pouring it works fine. It’s not the same as say a latte, but it’s a bit frothy. Especially if I accidentally boil it, which makes it a bit frothier.

Boiling oat milk works just the same as cow milk - i.e. it swells up and overflows making a mess everywhere 😆

Haha, fair enough. It always seemed like a bit too much effort for me as well, but I’m a stalwart black coffee guy anyway.
