Pope Francis was in critical condition on Saturday after he suffered a prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis while being treated for pneumonia and a complex lung infection, the Vatican said.

The 88-year-old pope, who remains conscious, received “high flows” of oxygen to help him breathe. He also received blood transfusions after tests showed low counts of platelets, which are needed for clotting, the Vatican said in a late update.

I don’t think a schism would be needed. Many of the current cardinals are ultra-traditional and want to return to more firebrand/traditional policies. And that is because some of the most powerful orders within the church (for example Opus Dei) already align very closely with project 2025 ideologies. They would love to dovetail in with the project 2025 team, expand it into other Western countries, and drag the entire Catholic Church along with them.

Excellent breakdown. I don’t really follow the Catholic church, so this is good stuff to know.
