You don’t respond to trolls. This is one of the earliest rules of the internet.
I’m willing to bet my ass that gamers cheering for the ubisoft layoff will be complaining about the “good old time” of AAA studio in a couple of years. Spoiler: devs are losing their jobs, not executives.
Well they aren’t cheering for the employees who are laid off. It’s more like the Luigi killing of the murderer uhc exec. The people weren’t happy the exec was dead but that the protection they felt as a CEO was broken. Same with Ubisoft they have been behaving badly for so long., EA as well, the gamers just want change for the better and layoffs signal that change
The thing is, when you side with the anti-woke crowd, you make them feel legitimate. The latest AC game wasn’t even out and gamers were crushing it because “black samurai” and “women”.
Also, people are praising Steam, who has under 100 employees, takes 30% of the price of EVERY GAMES SOLD, and doesn’t let you own you games, but bashing studios (purely greedy capitalist business too, we agree) with thousands of employees who in the end are mostly passionate devs… That doesn’t make much sens to me and sadly, in the end it’s always devs that will pay for executive’s bad decision.

One is releasing a good product and the other don’t? Most people care for their money spend.
Yes but muh bougie activism.
And this is the sad reality of Dev will suffer over executive decisions good or bad. Despite the fact that the industry has responded over and over again, just make good games and the gamers will play. But also sadly make bad games and gamers support that too soooo?
Yes, “gamers” are a collection of toxic mudbutt degenerates. They have gotten so bad that I’m cautious about telling anyone I enjoy video games, as I’d hate to be associated with these hateful clowns.
No joke.
I’ve gotten to the point where I just don’t really play anything anymore because of it.
You go ‘boy I’d like to see what new games are coming soon’ and you immediately land in a cesspool of people throwing a fit that there’s a black guy, or a trans girl, or a white chick that doesn’t make their little peepee hard, as well as any other awful sexist, racist, ableist swill you can possibly imagine all over every inch of anything that remotely looks like gaming media or discussion forums.
I just kind of have quit looking, and just playing old games for the 2nd or 3rd time, despite the fact I would happily have bought anything that seems remotely fun a couple of years ago because I don’t want to subject myself to those morons, end up playing games with them, or like, having anyone confuse me as being one of them as you said.
Okay, but do so-called “gamers” actually care about video games? Because most of the time, I don’t see them talking about actual video games that they enjoy.
What kind of asshole celebrates mass layoffs? What the fuck
The ones being monkeybrained into celebrating ‘poetic justice’ for those they have been trained to perceive as entitled for making $70 games not worth it while being smug about an artistic vision and a ‘reality of the industry’ these dissatisfied customers supposedly don’t get. It’s the same vitriolic nonsense on social media as we see in politics. People’s perspective being pitted against each other without actually facilitated communication.
Yeah, I figure as much. Gross gross gross
Morons and children.
Coal mine workers with schadenfreude who were ridiculed by code monkeys who though they were too smart to be replaced.
*narrator They were replaced
For the record, I don’t agree with celebrating layoffs, I think they should direct their anger at C level actors. Nevertheless, I can understand why they react thusly, all these code monkeys have been prescribing the rest of the population how to live and how to pull themselves by the bootstraps and now find themselves in a bearish market. Before, anyone who could print “hello world” would be hired to deprive competitors of labour (see the explosion in compensation for CS jobs vs i.e. agriculture and services) now that is gone. Worst of all, that is the cadre of people that helped the C level cunts suck immense wealth from the lower class and middle class to the 1%. So ye, fucking unionise and welcome to the blue collar world, we’re with you, we’ll help you, but you fucking enabled every one who put you in this situation.
I’m a “code monkey” and never once expected anyone to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. You seem jaded at the c suite and taking it out on hypothetical devs.
I have no doubts that there is a good portion of people who work programming jobs who are also assholes, but am I in a bubble or something? Why would your average dev ridicule a coal miner? Miners work fucking hardcore jobs and deserve every penny of compensation and then some.
Have you interacted with any bougie SV dev lately?
Edit: This shit was the goto motto for every code bro within a 10 mile radius of the valley.
And I’m glad you have the empathy to recognise that although the coal industry was a pox upon the environment the people working in coal mines have a harrowing job and deserve fair compensation. (as do every other professionals that do honest work)
I try not to - bougie SV devs are bougie and SV :P
I know m8.
I thought empathy was an evolutionary trait, turns out it’s a skill, and some peeps (geographically around the valley) have evolutionary advantage by letting it wane. Set a wall centered on Philz (fuck Forbes for making it hip for the bros) and barricade up to a 10 mile radius. Solve half of earth’s problems.
“Gamers” can be pretty terrible people so this tracks.
In the case of the Veilguard, the devs responsible for the game divulgation lied or omitted the truth about the game, like in the case of Veilguard not importing the choices of previous games was leaked and doesn’t seem like they planned to tell the audience before the release, so I can see why some people hold a certain grudge with the Veilguard devs, but it’s stupid, it’s not their decision to do things like that.
I am rooting for the demise of Bioware/EA, they have been doing bad practices for a long long time, fuck all their execs. But with their demise will happen layoffs, the only thing to do is to support the devs with their new studio, like with the games: Stray Gods or Exodus
What gets shown to the public or not is not the decision of “the devs”, there is someone at the top calling the shots.
but it’s stupid, it’s not their decision to do things like that.
I know, but people associate them with the game.
