Don’t get me wrong: I am not posting this because of “Hooray, queer capitalism!”
I find it far more interesting in observing it as a phenomenon and - no matter how incidental it may be - I do appreciate that big Hollywood content creates a bullwark against the recent waves of LGBT+phobia. Let the homo- and transphobes go wrestle with the likes of Netflix and Amazon.
I feel-- or at least hoping-- this is less “rainbow capitalism” and more of a cultural shift.
I hope so too. Though the intensity of the pushback is currently extreme and IMO it still remains to be seen how far-reaching and durable a cultural shift is going to be.
Feels similar to when gay marriage was being passed in the US. I’m just not sure if antis moved on/went subterranean because they lost the populous on it or if they just jumped on to the new hotness of hating trans.
