Welcome to the Vegan Theory Club Weekly Megathread!

Questions of the week: (Feel free to answer one, both, neither, or posit your own!):

  1. What questions should be asked for the future weekly megathreads?
  2. What fun projects have you been working on lately?

Feel free to talk about anything, whether it’s vegan-related or not. This is a chill space for connecting, sharing ideas, and supporting each other; however, please keep in mind: vegans only, and we abide by the Anarchist Code of Conduct.

Be kind to all Earthlings! 🌱💙

    1. I don’t know I ran out of ideas weeks ago! Maybe something about a unique vegetable you’d like to try.

    2. Finding new places to walk without driving for 30 minutes first lol, I end up walking through the washes and drainage where I live which is nice and has a lot of plants which is cool. I just think its silly to drive to a reserve/park to pay for parking just to walk on a “hike” when my entire city is criss crossed with pathways and arroyos

Thanks for the question! I used to walk a bunch when I lived in the country (rural). I really miss bush (wilderness) walks and get frustrated walking where I live seeing just seeing concrete, asphalt, grass I’m allergic to, and noisy metal death boxes around. Legitimately, I nearly get run over every time I go out, it’s so frustrating it makes me want to never leave my flat.

    1. I have been having issues with ulnar nerve subluxation, rare except in floppy people who lift weights which ironically I started doing to ward off other injuries floppy people often suffer. Anyway my mate who’s big into computer accessibility was talking about ergonomic keyboards, and I wondered if that might help since typing makes it worse. So I have been working on turning this weirdo:

Into a physical object. Much printing, ordered the parts today. Gonna be busy once they arrive as handwiring a keyboard matrix is going to be time consuming.

I have a fleeting special interest in mechanical keyboards that comes up every few months or so. Really interested in these ergonomic keyboards and the flexibility they provide, especially going the DIY route. Currently using a logitech keyboard with proprietary keyswitches that I intend to replace. In fact, the switches now get too excited and register the keypress sometimes more than once or not even at all. Rather than ordering proprietary switches to fix it, I’m waiting for my keyboard special interest to kick into full gear and get a better keyboard that I can truly enjoy :)

Also bendy/floppy people represent. I can’t sleep on one side due to my shoulder cracking and moving more than it should and the pain is starting to creep into keyboard and mouse use if my posture is acting up (it always is lol). Really should invest into an accessible setup before the current one becomes inaccessible and causes me too much pain.

I have gotten great milage switching to a ploopy classic trackball. takes strain off the arm and wrist, and using forearm muscles vs thumb and wrist muscles is better for fatigue and lack of injury.

Will let you know how keyboard goes. It’s pretty straightforward using the website in the screenshot. Wiring is just hand soldering a matrix. Would be expensive if buying printed parts and keycaps though. NFI why blank keycaps cost so much

That does look/ sound like a fun project. I haven’t had a chance to try a split ergonomic keyboard but I’ve heard good things. Hope it goes well!

Edit: Also have you looked at vertical mouse? That has helped my wrist strain quite a lot

    1. “What aspect of yourself are you most proud of?” or “What’s a recent show you’ve enjoyed watching?” or “What’s a recent book you’ve enjoyed reading?” or “What aspect of your appearance do you like most about yourself?”
    2. I wrote up a guide to stockpiling for my family in the hopes they can become prepared for any emergencies

Thanks for the questions! It’s always good to be prepared and helping others do so is nice. I’m NC with most of my family, so I spend my resources on helping friends, although I should probably do a better job at that. I think there was a discussion thread about this in the !diy@vegantheoryclub.org community a while ago, so feel free to post any advice you have there :)

    1. What is a new meal/ recipe you tried recently and how’d it go?
    2. Honestly just working. I have a backlog of projects im needing to do like replace a broken lazy Susan cabinet which i have the parts but not the time. Oh, but you said fun…uh, wife and i have been doing some puzzles while listening to audio books. Going through the murder bot books atm and just finished a succulent puzzle. That’s been pretty fun and relaxing

Thanks for the question! Audio books and puzzles sounds fun. I find that doing either activity alone is not stimulating enough, but haven’t thought of tying both at the same time.
