Malakai Black is a free agent, PWInsider.com has confirmed.
Black’s deal with AEW expired yesterday. The promotion has removed him from their website roster.
Black, a former WWE NXT Champion, signed with AEW in 2021 after WWE, then being overseen by Vince McMahon, released him. Black was pushed heavily by Paul Levesque in NXT and one would think WWE is the most likely landing place for him.
While in AEW, he feuded with Cody Rhodes and Adam Copeland and headed The House of Black, which also featured Brody King, Julia Hart and Buddy Matthews. Without him, they have been rebranded the Hounds of Hell.

I hope he finds success where he goes! I do agree he was the weaker character in the group. Whether that was because of his back injury or creative issues I’m not sure.

Which says a lot cause character wise Buddy is right there…but it feels like Buddy has had more character development then every spoopyboi promo Black gave us over his AEW run.
Yeah there’s Buddy, but he wasn’t the leader of the group. Also look at him since he was unleashed!
That’s the problem, sometimes these guys who know what their character could be are held back by someone else’s creative.
