I guess we really are the Nazie’s this time around.
Read this one, guys, it’s important, paywall be damned. Send it to your representatives in Congress (particularly if they are a Republican), and ask them how they can possibly condone treating humans like this. They may reject as “Fake News” (i.e. facts they don’t like), but please do it anyway.
This should not be what we are.
The cruelty is the point and the system works exactly as designed. This is what the people who voted for Trump want. Appealing to their conscience is entirely futile.
So we should harass the people who harass the immigrants. Not roll over and point out that thats how it’s designed. Complacency is a tool they’re trying to exploit
Look I’m old, I’ve shouted from the rooftops how fucked this world is my whole adult life.
I’m tired. Maybe that’s exhaustion from being beat down by a system, behing hyper aware you’re being beat down by it, and at every step people telling you you are “alarmist.” I’m fucking wrecked tired. I don’t have it in me anymore.
I did my fucking bit. If you still have the energy, fucking go for it. But don’t wag your fucking finger at us olds who have literally never shut the fuck up about any of these issues, voted like our lives depended on it, and are fucking exhausted by it after decades of it.
We did our fucking bit, it’s not our fault no one listened and we have no political power beyond our vote.
I’ve been underpaid my entire god damned life, it’s not like I’ve had the economic or political power to make changes.
Hell, I’ve even had the union talk at several workplaces and was always in the minority of people who wanted a union. Never been lucky enough to have a union job.
Stop lecturing people who have done their bit over and over and over and over and over and over and over like they’re not contributing just because they’re finally completely exhausted by it all.
I’m not wagging my finger at anyone. I heard you shouting it from the rooftops tops and now I’m shouting it from behind a keyboard. I’m just keeping the idea from being forgotten.
I’m not saying, you shouldn’t do anything. I’m saying that appealing to their conscience doesn’t work.
Beyond that, liberals just can’t face these kind of things. They basically want to ignore the worst aspects of this system and pretend that they’re not a big deal or the cruelty hasn’t always been the point.
But “the cruelty is the point” is a hard line of US thought and has been since I was a child.
I grew up when “pre-existing conditions” were still a thing. The cruelty has always been the point.
More folks need to wake up and stop seeing this an aberration and start seeing the last 80 years as the aberration.
We’re simply returning to America’s original “fuck you, got mine” standard.
