Does this seem a little “meh” to anyone else? I’m not really all that good at judging cards, so I’m interested in hearing opinions. It just reads to me like kind of a “good enough if you end up with it in draft but won’t see play in constructed” sort of thing. Menace is already a pretty limited form of evasion, and having to put two other permanents into play each turn to trigger it makes it very unreliable. Being able to choose who gets it is nice, but a Gruul deck can just throw trample on its big beat-stick instead, and Izzet has access to much better forms of evasion. With a name like “celebration” the keyword is presumably targeting Rakdos, but I feel like they have better tools than this?

Is this a meh card, or am I missing something?

Anything entering with a role procs it so it might happen more than you’d think in the right draft deck

But even when it happens, the effect you’re getting is just menace. I feel like you can probably get better and more reliable evasion than that?

I don’t draft much, so maybe I’m the idiot here.

Direct damage is only part of the benefit to the ability. Menace is a really good for forcing beneficial trades, especially if it’s getting +1/+0. It’s not great removal, but in an aggro deck that’s looking to trade aggressively already, it’s usually just pure upside.

It’s an uncommon, it’s not going to be meta defining. It would work well with Aggravated Assault or other extra combat effects if a deck was already going that direction.
