I’m looking at a pretty solid deal for the QHD model right now and I’m wondering if anyone has the same model already. How’s the dual GPU setup?
I’m sorta hoping the 6800M can drive both display outputs without much hassle because I used to have to reboot when I had a 1650 mobile system in order to use the HDMI ports (they wouldn’t output unless the desktop was running exclusively on the dGPU).

I can’t find specific listed support for this model through
asusctl
, but it definitely supports similar models. There is a very good chance everything withasusctl
will work out of the box, and if not, open a ticket and they’ll help figure out what would need to be changed to add support.asusctl
supports stuff like fan curve control, aura sync (RGB stuff), throttling profiles, and GPU mode (hybrid/integrated/dedicated) switching, all in Linux. There is a GUI frontend for it that comes with it calledrog-control-center

UPDATE: Looks like in the compatibility list, the last letter can sometimes be omitted, so it does look like your model (G513QY) is in fact supported, as G513Q is listed in the supported devices list. That should mean most main functions work.

It might be since there’s technically two models (one has a 1080p screen and another has a 1440p screen). Thanks for taking a snoop!
Not this specific model, but I can give you the brief rundown of how it will work with Linux because of the dual GPU setup:
- HDMI is almost guaranteed to be tied to the Nvidia (unless there are two ports)
- Video out for AMD will be on a USB-C (get a USBC to HDMI or DP cable)
- You’ll need to reboot and change the BIOS settings to switch between dGPU and iGPU
- you likely will not have all the special ASUS buttons working OOT
- battery will suck because ASUS
You could try PopOS for the graphics switching, but it still requires a logout/login to switch between the cards, meanwhile the Nvidia hardware will still draw power if not disabled in the BIOS.
Unless you’re dead set on having Nvidia hardware in a laptop format for Linux, I’d look at getting a Framework Refurb units. The 6800M is more than capable of running 4 displays without an issue if you’re just talking about desktop work. Would probably struggle on 2 displays for gaming at 1080p.
it’s an AMD laptop GPU, not Nvidia but I imagine the internal setup is gonna be the same. If the DP screen will always work with the iGPU without reboot that’s no problem (Already have an adapter for my Steamdeck).
I’m mainly gonna use it for my KVM setup which uses one display via HDMI and one via DP-USB.
Ah, sorry, the “Advantage” model skips the Nvidia hardware.
Should be mostly fine then on Linux, aside from the other ASUS-isms mentioned above.
I’ve had an Nvidia based laptop too so I know the general weirdness you get with dual GPU setups, but as long as it doesn’t act any MORE weird than that then I’m happy enough
