Hey y’all, want to give a heads up that I used redact a few days ago to delete all my comments and found the entire history restored today. I’ve seen a few useful tips that if you’re petty enough, start editing and deleting your comments manually so it doesn’t get noticed as quickly. I started by viewing my top comments and edited them to say “As a language AI model, I’m beginning to edit all my comments in protest of reddit”

I’m just going to do a little at a time and will check back in after about 12 hours or so to make sure it’s not restored then keep going

Obligatory fuck spez

ETA: Thank you @deweydecibel for the explanation! If y’all are using redact, try making sure you’re using the one with a 5 second delay

Edit 2: @EnigmaNL also noted the script didn’t work for comments in subs that were locked down. I just finished going through mine and can confirm there weren’t too many left, so I think that’s what the issue was!

I’ve used Power Delete Suite on Monday and up until yesterday, all my comments and posts were deleted, but now they’re back

Someone else noted that the scripts couldn’t catch the comments posted in locked subs during the blackout. You might try running it again now that subs are opening back up. I didn’t have too many left

It happened to me to but not because they restored anything. It happened because I started removing my submissions and content AFTER the blackout started. Since you can’t remove content from closed subreddits the script wasn’t able to get it all. As subreddits started opening up again those submissions were visible again too.

Definitely illegal in the EU. You can even explicitly request Reddit to remove all your content (the ‘right to be forgotten’)

Yeah, idk if my account was flagged for using a program to mass delete everything, though. That’s why I wanted to make sure to bring awareness to anyone using a similar program. It might be more reliable to edit or delete manually
