Whoops. The geographic shape, colors, and and symbol do look pretty similar at a glance.

Point still stands for the USSR though

Sure… buddy. Just ask Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Baltics and lastly Afghanistan. You guys are called tankies for a reason.

A lot of this is in the context of the literal nazis conquering these places, like Poland especially. Afghanistan was literally intentionally destabilized by the CIA to draw them into the conflict.

I’m not about to defend all of the USSR’s decisions, but context is important and the US is responsible for far worse.

Yeah, the 1950s was still full of Nazis that the Soviets rolled tanks to crush Prague citizens. And the communist Afghan government was somehow CIA/Nazi-stooge, which made the Soviets invade and topple the ruling communist government, which proceeded to basically annex the country against the will of Afghans.

The cold war is over. You can stop simping and doing PR for a dead empire.

It would be worth your time to listen to Season 4 of Blowback if you want a better understanding of the history there. I don’t know what imagined interpretation you have, but it’s wildly inaccurate.

It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool, than to talk and remove all doubt of it.
