In the show, a storyline involving her character Remy having an interracial relationship was considered so shocking that she said there were “insane death threats constantly coming into the studios” and extra security had to be hired. Remy was also bisexual, something she says was considered groundbreaking at the time, but is commonplace today. “Seeing what’s on television now, if you watch ‘Euphoria,’ the fact that that my character was shocking and groundbreaking then, it’s like, no, it’s nothing.”
I remember watching house live. Didn’t think anything of her character as ground breaking. Crazy how people lose it over a minor thing about the show.
I mean she was an interesting character, but it was less about her being bi or in an interracial relationship and more about her having Huntington’s as well as some actual character development (if I remember correctly, anyway)
That’s what I thought was ground breaking at the time.
People lost their minds over Kirk and Uhura kissing on screen in Star Trek TOS because it was showing an interracial kiss. That was what, 60 years ago? The more things change….
Hopefully some of those illegal threats were handled by the justice system but probably not
Your optimism is refreshing
Never would’ve thought that the assumption that nothing will be done is optimism
Remy? Who the fuck is that? I thought she played 13.
pretty sure his name is Ratatouille
That’s the same person. 13 is her nickname (from the number she was assigned in House’s new team competition), Remy is her real name, not revealed until a couple seasons later. A strong desire for privacy is kinda part of the character.
