What drives me crazy is that pretty much everyone on Majority Report, which I really enjoy as a progressive voice, still uses it. While criticizing it and Musk.

I can sort of understand the addiction of these things, but if I was able to break free of Reddit after 13 years, surely they can break free of Twitter.

Deleting my facebook account was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Social media is not required

It’s a circlejerk now isn’t it? Not just because it is filled with nazis but if you are not logged in you can’t search, you can’t see full threads and you can’t view tweets in date posted order. People with no twitter account cannot interact with it in full so unless you want to market to nazis what reason is there to continue operations there?

Nothing else has the traction yet to replace the utility of Twitter for news organizations unfortunately

          This is the real answer.

Twitter is unfortunately still where the majority of users are. Might not be right or good, but it’s true. I’d bet most people get the majority of news/announcements from some form of social media these days.

Mastodon is still far from critical mass of users. Most “influencers” or news organizations aren’t going to move to a significantly smaller platform with much worse discoverability.

Until something takes the users from Twitter it’s still going to be the primary spot for a lot of the internet.

And that’s fine. What’s not fine is not really trying to engage with alternatives. No one is on mastodon because no one is on mastodon.

How hard would it be for TMR to create a single acct on a major instance and have their social media person ctrl-c ctrl-v the major tweets etc? Not everyone, not everything, not at first. But have a minimal presence to foster engagement. We gotta be the change we wanna see.

If simple techy youtubers like @geerlingguy@mastodon.social and @ActionRetro@bitbang.social / @ActionRetro@lemmy.world can make the time. The MR crew could too.

Honestly not enough furry artists have joined Mastodon for me to care to make an account. I heard there’s a lot joining Bsky though so I’ll check it out if I eventually get an invite.

Elon is a free speech absolutist. He supports Nazis, the KKK, misinformation, racism, sexism, homophobia, ect.

But what he can’t abide is anyone that hurts his fee fee, people he disagrees with, and people that expose his awfulness. After all, he has to draw a line SOMEWHERE.

Hear me out buddy, just block the community entirely based on reporting on the guy. That’s what this is, no need to whinge about it.

What did you expect from this community? A blank community with nothing posted? Weird shit man, just block

This Elon shit is basically the new gorilla marketing. Bad publicity is publicity and a lot of human beings are daf and feed into it. It’s working too… Even if it’s negative …it’s working… For him… They/he want you to feed into it.
