Wow, Futurama kind of called this one exactly:
To be fair, it was a well known practice by then, and Futurama was merely parodying what was already happening.
Especially since this is from the Futurama reboot in 2010? I remember first hearing about this practice about 20 years ago, so that tracks. It’s even in the episode about the eyePhone and excessive electronic waste.
I love the smell of ewaste in the morning. It smells like profits. /s
This is why I buy used appliances &etc and learn how to repair and recondition them. I hate seeing useful devices go to landfill.
