I’m also going viral on mastodon. WTF is going on?! :D

The Lemmy structure isn’t really visible from Mastodon, and communities shows up as groups in Mastodon, but yeah you can see Lemmy’s content on the Fediverse, same as on kbin :)

@DarkTides yeah! they both work with activitypub!

I don’t follow any groups/magazines/whatever directly from mastodon (because they’d clog my feed).

However, you can copy the post or comment links, paste them into the search bar in mastodon, and then boost/favourite/reply :)

It’s a little bit awkward, but you get used to it.

Favourite in mastodon turns into an upvote on the lemmy/kbin side. Boost doesn’t really do much on lemmy/kbin (yet) but does increase reach on the mastodon side as it always does.

And replies, naturally, show up as you’d expect :)

It will be really cool when we start getting browser plug-ins improving interaction between such services

@DarkTides that’s one of the great things about using an open protocol

sure the UX is basically non-existent, but it works!

hopefully a better client will happen eventually to make it easier for people to understand.

Is it possible for someone to build a mastodon client that can also display and follow Lemmy/kbin groups so that they display correctly? I would love to switch over to my defcon.social account and do everything from that profile.

@wason not sure about lemmy. i know kbin has support with its microblog functionality and how any post coming in from a remote server that isn’t to a group goes to a “random” magazine

I like how kbin in a way combines the thread feel of posts and the microblogging timeline of mastodon into one thing.

You can follow users from each platform as well and follow their posts as well.

Are there any Android apps you recommend for kbin? Kbin and mastodon seem like the apps available for it are more developed than the lemmy ones. Would like a way to keep track of communities on the phone. Right now I’m stuck to using browser, since didn’t like the apps for lemmy too much yet.

Kbin is actually less than 6 months old on the public side and I’m sure mobile apps are on the forecast. I know there is an app in the works already too. Even lemmy is a little young in public use so any mobile apps are not as polished.

The apps being built are by others offering their time for the greater use of the fediverse.

So this is a pretty exciting time then to get to still experience the progress of all this at its infancy.

Absolutely! There’s a lot of community members and new ideas of things that should happen and. It as well. The federation between instances is what makes it new as well and there’s a lot of opinions as well.

I don’t think there’s an app for it, but you can install it as a web app. And it works pretty well.
