    The answer is in the article - the Mac mini was $250 and is not included here, the $2/month is electricity.

      And also the internet connection, network equipment,… are not part of the calculation. I don’t say, they’re lying, but the headline suggests a way lower cost than they pay.

      I mean, they’re comparing it to some cloud provider, where you get housing, hardware, networking, internet connectivity, electricity, (maybe software licenses), maintenance and some form of management of your hosts and some more things all covered in your fee and then they say, they are cheaper, because they only list the electricity. And in all fairness, they most likely are. It’s impressive to use refurbished consumer hardware in production and get away with it. I’d probably use two Mac minis and try to get more availability and flexibility for software upgrades, etc. in this case. If they can afford a $2 per month, they can also survive $4 per month.
