I’m trying to understand why they(we) are such a close ally. There is nearly no benefit to America supporting Israel. They are not good. Israel has stolen too much land and murdered too many civilians for greed.
It is unfortunately simple. The feelings of religion and sympathy in the wake of WW2 completely aside, strategically they offer the US a strong military ally in the Middle East, including playing host to several military bases. That’s a very rare thing in that region.
The intelligence and technology sharing Israel provides is even more important than the bases. The US has bases all over the Middle East.

Where?
Not in Gaza or Lebanon. Syria maybe. Iran if they get that far.
Unless the US puts boots on the ground, which would require a draft to have enough troops, which would end the presidency of whoever does it, Israel isn’t annexing anything outside Palestine. They can’t even take Lebanon, and I like Lebanon and all, but they’re not a real military force to be reckoned with.
It would take Iran a day to cleanse occupied Palestine of its Nazi problem, if they thought the US wouldn’t nuke them on Israels behalf.
