I loved this movie. I thought it was interesting, had palpable dread, and looked really good.

I loved this film purely for the “monster”. A good monster comes on slow, you catch wind of it long before you grasp its true nature, and by the time you get what’s happening it’s already too late to run. Every time we saw a new critter you learned something new, but you didn’t really get to understand what’s going on, if at all, until the end.

The rest is all window dressing in support of that, for me. Science Rambo and all, no bother. Just give me a steadily increasing apprehension of dread that never plateaus until all is lost.

For those of you who watched the movie but didn’t “get” it (me included). Here’s a video from Dan Olsen talking about it: https://youtu.be/URo66iLNEZw.

He also criticises the whole movie review deal on YouTube where they just summarize the movie.

This movie was sooo dumb. The book wasn’t any better. “Have you used a gun before, theoretical physicists?” “no” "here’s an assault rifle [cue rambo scene]

This is one of those movies that didn’t fit with me in any way and I don’t understand how so many people enjoy it.

When this happens to me, I will often go hunting explanation videos. Often times I rewatch the movie with a new perspective and end up liking it a lot more. It’s also ok to not like it too.
