    Clearly some people do, and more people try. Whether they “generally” do doesn’t matter. What’s important is that “enough” people do to prevent humanity from selecting one of our myriad possible self extinctions.

      What’s important is that “enough” people do to prevent humanity from selecting one of our myriad possible self extinctions.

      The issue is that it is easier to harm than it is to heal, so the ratio has to be quite large in the favour of those who do not wish to do damage. See how easy it is for a motivated few to destroy public discourse by making up harmful bullshit, and then having it amplified because it’s ‘interesting’. The common preference for convenience is easily bent towards harm, because harming others to feel better about yourself not being harmed in comparison to those others is very easy.
