    Gosh if only there were other countries nearby that they could have close economic ties with in order to have a secure food supply…

      That too. I remember looking at the maths for this: the raw figure for pay seems good until you factor in transport (to the site or between sites), accommodation (can be mandatory on-site, even if you live nearby) and tax (in case you have anything left) - by that time the pay looks pretty poor.

    We may also have to think about what we eat - in terms of seasonality and in terms of the balance between meat and plant.
