Lemmy is now up to 0.18.4 while lemmy.sdf is still on 0.18.2

18.3 brought some major performance enhancements to the backend, fixed many federation issues, and greatly improved hot/active.

18.4 has now fixed the dead-instance phone-home bugs.

Are we going to update? And I mean this question with no bad intent; I love SDF, and am an ARPA member: is this instance dying? I know it’s more work for every service that SDF hosts and lemmy has certainly taken more work than some other services - I don’t want lemmy.sdf to die, but if it’s going to stagnate it would be nice to know so we can gracefully migrate.

Lemmy 0.18.2 (which sdf is on) came out 29 days ago. I wouldn’t consider sdf Lemmy to be dying because they don’t jump on every point release the second it comes out. Production system shouldn’t rush out releases unless it’s patching zero days. To talk about needing to migrate off or the platform dying because they are on a release not even a month old is a bit hysterical.

To say it is a bit hysterical is an understatement.

I agree. I have no idea what it takes to run publicly accessible services over the long haul. Hell, I can barely keep my sorry-ass website up!

I know that lemmy itself is pretty new, but I have to assume that the people who’ve been keeping SDF alive and functional for over 35 years know what they’re doing.
