In Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Major Samar Anand, a bomb disposal expert in the Indian Army, saves Akira, a documentary filmmaker, leading her to discover his past love story with Meera through his diary. The film alternates between the past and present, showing Samar’s love for Meera, who, despite being engaged, falls for him. After an accident, Meera makes a vow to God to end their relationship if Samar’s life is spared. Samar, furious with her beliefs, moves to India and risks his life daily to prove her wrong.
In the present, Akira falls for Samar, but he remains distant. After another accident, Samar loses his memory, forgetting the last ten years. Meera reenters his life, pretending to be his wife, hoping his memory will return. Eventually, through a bomb-diffusing incident, Samar regains his memory and realizes Meera has been suffering as much as him.
