Find the mute button - usually the second button down on the right - then mark it clearly with a sharpie for the next person.

Unfortunately there are some pump models that don’t have a mute button now and the best you can do is retreat to the car and wait it out.

An air can turned upside-down gets cold enough to destroy most speaker cones, leaves no evidence that the machine is malfunctioning and needs repair, and is legal and non-suspicious to carry around in your car.

        In Minecraft.

One of my most upvoted comments in lemmy is me saying I should be allowed to smash those screens if they play ads.

Your function is to pump my fucking gas if you do anything more than that fuck off

If everybody starts doing it (and trust me they will, it’s free money after all) we’ll be kinda forced to.

There are only 2 gas stations in my town that don’t have these obnoxious ass pumps and both of them are on the other side of town where I’m most likely to get stabbed by a used heroin needle for my shoes.

So yeah I’d say I’m being damn near forced.

Around me all the charging stations have giant 120” verticals screens constantly playing video ads at max brightness even in the middle of the night, and they’re always arranged in a way that you’re forced to see them even if you’re just passing by the chargers and not using them.

And you just know they are taking advantage of some subsidized energy prices because they’re “green”.

My guess is you’re seeing the L2 chargers outside a grocery store or some such. Those charge so slowly you aren’t expected to stick around and look at them, you plug in and do your grocery shopping. If you’re looking to charge a significant amount, these are not it.

I’ve never seen a Level 3 charger with an advertisement. Hell, 90% of the time I have to scour the parking lot to find the charger because they’re usually hidden and unlabeled.

Bonus points, if you’re fortunate enough to have access to a power outlet where you park, you can usually do 99% of your charging from home, ad free.

Who’s to say what crap the toddler king will tack on in the future, but previously and for now, no ads.

This used to work for my local Circle K’s and now does not. Not at a single pump I’ve tried in the last two years. I’m pretty sure it’s illegal.

The button that is worn out to the point of no longer working. After it quit working, I took to staring directly at the security camera while using my free hand to repeatedly punch the screen playing the commercial. I would rate the screen as disappointingly durable. I have an electric car now so I no longer have to tolerate it.
