What’s with the Funko Pops? They don’t seem inherently depressing like everything else in the image.

i like your question and hope this response helps you understand my perspective

imagine instead a wall of multicolored yarn. every child can knit their own character and have imaginary adventures that speak to their unique and diverse personalities. consider how much joy this would bring. and how cheaply it could be done

now, a dinosaur was exhumed from the earth and manufactured into this piece of plastic, modelled after a character owned by a media conglomerate. this piece of plastic is going to be put into a house, where it can sit there and collect dust. we can feel group affinity that we have all watched the same commodified story. each of these properties is copyrighted. we are legally prohibited from sharing our own interpretations of these characters… which means things drains out creativity like a black hole until it ends up in a landfill

oh, but its just harmless fun? sparks joy? please consider the implications of having a shelf of this crap. american homes are enormous. all that space that could maybe, perhaps, house some of the more than half a million homeless people in the us? maybe we can rebuild true community, that comes of being considerate about how we use the space around us?
