Unless you live in a country with a 2-party/FPP system, then not voting for the lesser of two evils just means the evil wins.
If you live in a 2-party system, and want the lesser evil to move towards good, then you have to do more than just vote. Actually get involved in local politics. Make your voice heard by those setting policy.
So many assumptions baked into this… it’s not worth the time/effort to debunk this stupidity.
Here is actual reality:
The next POTUS will be either the Democrat or the Republican. Right now that translates to Harris or Trump. No matter how hard you squint, no matter how hard you mentally masturbate, one of these two people will be elected. If you vote for Trump then you are helping Trump win. If you do not vote for Harris then you are helping Trump win. Choose wisely.
If you want further discussion on this, this is where I found it: https://www.reddit.com/r/LateStageCapitalism/comments/1erncva/the_long_term_effect_of_voting_for_the_lesser_evil/
I don’t really want to discuss it… it’s a deepity. It’s something that sounds profound at first glance, but is completely revealed to be bullshit when seriously examined.
Short version: If you don’t want to have to vote for the lesser evils then you (and many others) have to get involved in the process long before the POTUS election. It would also be good to get rid of the archaic FPTP voting system and do something like RCV.
Solid
Late stage capitalism reddit sub has literally been linked to russian intelligence. Of course they don’t want left wing people not to vote, they want trump elected.
Just pointing out that I heard the same shit last month, except replace Harris with Biden, now bidens gone
Still true.
The probem is the shift to the right is NOT a result of voting.
Let me say that again.
The shift to the right is NOT a result of voting.
The shift to the right is because the right refuses to work with the left. Everyone has to move right to accomplish anything, and because the left honestly does believe they need to accomplish SOMETHING, they capitulate to the right.
I’ve been watching this for decades now.
When the right is in power:
“We’re the majority! Elections mean things! You have to work with us!”
When the right is not in power:
“We’re the minority! You have to work with us or you’re not being bi-partisan!”
At no point do they ever consider shifting left. They never will. Because their goal is to make sure nothing gets done. When the choices are move right or do nothing, moving right wins.
For the right, it’s a win either way.
It’s actually the exact opposite. Look up how overton window works.
And instead of tanking democrats in races. Help further left parties win downballot races they actually can win, and vote progressive in dem primaries.
This model is quite literally how they condition everything into you. Gas prices raise two dollars, breaking records, everyone freaks out, they lower gas prices a $1.50, everyone cheers. Few months later repeat. We are compromising ourselves into having nothing. They take a mile, we fight and settle to get half of what we lost back, then they do it again.
Who are they to you?
Your argument is that the Dems have moved to the right, but I’m struggling to think of any examples of that in the last 30+ years. During Clinton’s term they passed DOMA and DADT, and now they’re in favor of same sex marriage and trans rights. The ACA, CFPB, attempts at student loan forgiveness, lowering prescription prices, etc. I just don’t see how the left has moved to the right, although I agree that the right has moved right.
Issues that have long been policy in most other countries for decades.
Dems not catching up to other left parties in other countries isn’t Dems moving right. The examples I gave demonstrate a clear, if only moderate, move to the left. Their move is barely perceptible, but certainly not to the right.
That’s them moving slowly, though, not moving in the wrong direction
Prices always trend upwards. That is inflation, and our current system requires inflation to function.
Imagine the plight of those in places where raising the price of fuel by $1.50 USD would evaporate the market.
This is bullshit and false. Politics are a pendulum.
