Can someone expound on this?
Even ELI5?
Fully editorialized by me who is “crazy”
There was a post on my vegan community about how republicans are reporting that democrats are going to make everyone give up meat and it is “false news”
someone wrote “all my life I was told the democrats that are coming for my guns, food and appliances but its the republicans that are coming for our rights”
I replied “It is the democrats, how come the democrats have been in control for 75% of the past 30 years but all the republican initiatives pass like removing the right to bodily autonomy while none of theirs do like single payer or police reform” - this is what I assume is so “offensive” to Americans to hear that gave ptz the vapors.
This post of mine immediately gets to -5. One of the downvoters went to every post in my instance and downvoted everything. This made me mad, way more mad than it should have. My bad. I made a post showing the vote counts and told people if they do this they get banned. I proceeded to ban many people for Troll defense. By the way this is a good tactic because there are people who just downvote every post they see asap and it would make a small niche instance (you know the thing everyone complains is lacking on lemmy, their niche hobbies) demoralizing to post on.
This offended the righteous sensibilities of the admin of dubvee.org to place a hesitation on my instance for “Admin acts like a crazy person” and posted to a drama community on lemmy.ca
I reacted poorly again because I guess this really makes me sad and upset. Then lemmy.ca revoked an endorsement on the instance. I do not want to pay to be made sad and upset. I have placed a hesitation on them and de federated their content. I’m going to clean up some neoliberal trash subscriptions that were federated to my instance and give it to my friend. I have removed all my posts in those communities so that it doesn’t become fuel for more drama. With the generalist instances gone maybe my 20 vegan friends including some IRL ones can enjoy our book club. Fuck this.
Thanks!
Lemmy dogpiles by default, and once a SINGLE downvote occurs, the post is very likely doomed.
Without much detail, I have anecdotal (yet compelling) ‘proof’.
Posts should max out at -3, then a single upvote can help to resurrect it, whilst it can still be downvoted to -3.
This way, the dogpiling is reduced somewhat, and the “evil” post can still see engagement.
However, it’ll never happen.
Stay safe.
I appreciate the honesty, it’s quite rare.
I’ll take a rip for you buddy.
