The values would be more relevant with the percentage of total medals won over the total metals available as the number of disciplines and medals changes with the Olympic Games considered.
Hm, that’s a good point, but has it changed that much since then? I have the impression that, apart from the host country’s choice event, it’s been fairly stable for 4-5 editions at least.
Stats cover since 1895. So yes, it changed from 43 to 300+.

Look at the winter games and the home advantage in Vancouver might be the highest on the whole thing.
I think it was on NBC just yesterday that they had a graphic addressing the same phenomenon but just tracking more recent games and the hosts’ performance in the preceding games, I think the previous 4 Olympic Games for each host.
