There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy.
I wonder if he’ll be thinking about the irony of having said that when Trump is in office, democracy is dead and he’s plummeting 20 floors to his death after one of Trump’s operatives has thrown him out a window.
There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy.
But January 6th was totally fine. Right? The courts seem to think so. The Democrats sure seem determined to hand the country over to the fascists.
They have been enacting political violence against other countries and their own citizen themself during their presidency
Why should we be relieved that a fascist fucker, who is the embodiment of human refuse, who has tried to overthrow our government before, and has promised to do it again, just got a huge campaign boost? Didn’t we learn these lessons in the 30’s? At least Hitler actually got some jail time, but I guess 4 damned years isn’t long enough for the courts to hand out a single sentence.
Because politics. That’s it. That’s the whole reason. If Trump had actually died it would give MAGA assholes even more “proof” that the “liberals” are out to get them. Since he survived everyone is working overtime to attempt to prevent the right from spiraling things even more out of control. Personally I would have been fine if he didn’t make it, but that would also harden the MAGA crowd.
I mean, the left is out to get them, and they’re out to get the left. When I was younger people of different political beliefs talked about them, found commonalities, and agreed to disagree on certain topics that they strongly felt the other was wrong about. Now everyone is out to get “the other side”, as if we were total enemies. Of course trump and the people like trump that came before him, like Rush Limbaugh, engineered it to be this way. If we’re all busy fighting each other, then we’re not watching them as they pillage the nation.
When I was younger…
You’re over 250 years old?
From my studying of history American politics have been “us” vs “them” since George Washington stepped down after two terms.
It was even before that. Washington had a rough second term thanks to “us” is “them”.
While dems play this controlled opposition civility card, Republicans will be mobilizing their supporters and riling them up completely unchecked because yeah maybe calling for violence is bad but calling somebody bad for doing so is worse
“Respectability” should be a swear word. Even rolling it around my tongue feels like I’m tonguing raw sewage, or maybe a particularly used condom. It implies a certain standard of behavior. To those who aim to be respectable, the standard is of civility, of fair-mindedness, of calm, reasonable debate and jovial disagreement. To those who don’t give a fuck about that bullshit, it stinks of elitist posturing, of valuing messaging over content, and of Puritan control. That’s how the scumfucks get away with it, you understand. They decry your tone, your language – not your content.
Not the thing that really matters, but the distraction of respectability and civility and propriety. Because you see, it makes them uncomfortable. They don’t like to be reminded that their policies affect real human beings. That would make it nearly impossible for some of them (not all, of course, there are some real fucking sociopaths there) to pass bills that cut welfare spending, or to authorize missile sales to Saudi Arabia
…Ultimately, a call for respectability is a call to take your beating with a smile, because you are serving the interests of their narrowly-defined democracy. But isn’t decency a good thing? Shouldn’t civility be a goal we all strive for, especially for public figures?
No.
Here’s the fucking truth – everyone is a fucking asshole, especially those who claim that they just want some “decency.” How do I know this? Because the same people who claim “civility” are the people who authorize defense appropriations for arms sales to theocrats, the people whose idea of a “humane homeless policy” is to put spikes on public benches, the people who think fascists can be defeated by hugs. Embracing “respectability” over content, and over values, is promoted primarily by those that have the privilege of ignoring the deleterious effects of said policy.
…Don’t play by the rules of the oppressor, because their rules are specifically designed to silence you, to negate you, to ignore you.

“But fuck the bystanders that caught the bullets intended for the former president, one of whom is dead. The ruling class is more important than them, regardless of team.”
Lmfao
Trump, if either Obama, Bernie, or Biden got shot at:
“TOO BAD THE SHOOTER MISSED. WE NEED TO GET THESE DEMONCRATS OUT OF HERE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. WE GOTTA MAKE AMERICA BEAUTIFUL AND GREAT AGAIN PEOPLE!”
Too coherent, not believable unless someone else wrote it.
Haha! I haven’t listened to the guy “talk” since the debate in 2020, because he hurts my brain with just how fucking moronic he is. I’m sorry!
The best take I’ve seen is that Democrats should take this opportunity, dust off an old gun control bill that failed, rename it the President Trump Assassination Prevention Act and try to pass it. Republicans will still vote against it, but they’ll be on record as voting against the President Trump Assassination Prevention Act.
The only thing more American than apple pie is political violence.
Or, just violence in general. Violence in the political sphere is the result of just general violence everywhere.
Trump: “Obama is correct, there is no place for violence in our democracy. That’s why I’m getting rid of democracy, to make room for plenty of violence”
“There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy…”
Ummmm…I hate to the be the bearer of bad news, but your democracy was born from violence. It’s quite literally the defining characteristic of your founding as a nation.
And I’m not suggesting that there is anything wrong with that. In fact I think the whole “violence has no place” schtick is naive to the core and no real change in history has ever occurred without violence.
The French Revolution was just a bunch of scrubs walking around until someone finally pulled out the guillotine. Hitler was just being “appeased” until he finally crossed a line in Poland. Napoleon laughed off diplomacy until the entire european world said “enough is enough”.
non-violence just delays the inevitable. I’m sorry if that’s an unpopular opinion, but it’s been proven true again and again and again.
You can dislike people but violence is never good.
While I am not advocating harm against Trump, using force – including violent force – to stop active harm against you or someone else is something we all would probably feel justified in if the situation came up, for instance if a crazy guy was trying to hurt or murder your child. The secret service did it today when they killed the shooter (at least i think they did; that’s the current reporting).
What about when the state is perpetrating the violence?
“democracy” lol US is a plutocracy, a dictatorship of capital.
This really needs to be redone by Key & Peele’s anger translator
Everything except the last sentence is factually and ethically incorrect.
Isn’t this white people twitter here? /s
