I hope Pelosi and Obama get through to him and he steps down. It will be on Kamala to pick a running mate to energize the base, and as a prosecutor I think it would go a long way if she went with a staunch progressive as her running mate. Like could you imagine if we got a Harris Ocasio-Cortez ticket? AOC wouldn’t have to be the frontrunner on questions of experience, and Kamala could show she cares about the future voters and setting AOC up for a future presidential run. I don’t know how we can make that kind of a future a reality, but we really need to try.

As an European (which also means I’m much more politically aligned with AOC), isn’t she far too progressive for the popular vote?

While I’m in no doubt it would be what was best for the US, does she have the numbers to beat the insurrectionist?

Bernie Sanders reached more voters on the right than centerist democrats do, hes been on fox news and has in other ways connected with right wing voters publicly, other progressives probably could do the same if they were smart with their messaging. If AOC wasn’t Fox news’ boogyman for years I’d Imagine she win in a blowout. That also probably why she was the boogyman.

My fear is that she’ll pick someone from the right-wing of the party to ‘balance out’ the fact that she’s a racial minority and a woman, which scares those poor, poor right-leaning voters.

I mean, of course she will. If Biden steps aside, the party runs the risk of looking like it’s capable of listening. Don’t want the left getting the idea that they should expect better.

I do feel like the press is making a huge deal out of him misspeaking when dude is still incumbent and functioning as the same ol’ boring ass president he has always been.

Inflation was at zero last month and is actually negative this month, and we have had record job growth for several years. And those are just two of many amazing statistics we have been enjoying during his administration.

He’s been a great president. And I’d like him to continue.

I don’t disagree that individual incidents mean very little, especially considering Biden’s long history of gaffes and the fact that he is an 80 year old man and one cannot expect him to be as spry as a spring chicken…

But Democratic Congressmembers have asked him to stand down as presumptive nominee. There is clearly a lack of confidence in his ability to continue - you don’t make public statements like that unless private channels have been exhausted and things are well and truly fucked.

The problem with dementia is you have lucid periods and bad periods.

Stories emerging from the white house paint a picture of deliberate attempts to hide the extent of Bidens ill health from the people.

The latest being that cabinet meetings are short, infrequent and cabinet members are asked before hand to submit questions and talking points. Cabinet members are unable to comment on how Biden is as they don’t get to see him. This is very worrying as one of the “reassurances” we’ve been given is that Biden has picked an good team which supposedly compensates for any other deficiencies. Instead we find his top tram are working with little direct interaction with the elected president.

He has to go from the ticket. This is absolute madness in so many ways and the democrats are going to hand the presidency to Trump, but also possibly the senate and the house. It says a lot when the Trump campaign are dialling down the attacks on his mental capacity as they don’t want him to withdraw - they want to attack him on this again after the point of no return.

Any Americans here really should be contacting their democrat party representatives and urging them to act.

As someone in the UK I am watching this mess with concern for the future. A Trump presidency controlling all arms of the american government is horrifying and looking like an increasing possibility.

There were just too many idiots for too long that were yelling down any discussion of Biden’s obvious ineptitude. Any time anyone would bring it up, they would just jam the “BoTh SiDeS” buttons on their keyboards. They completely fell into the trap of trying to crush discussion, and now we are left holding this senile old man as a candidate. It is almost certainly a lost cause at this point. Harris has half the payout of Biden on most sites where you can gamble on the results, and she isn’t even running. If we get anything out of this mess, I hope it is that the new generation of democrats coming up can see how toxic and self-sabotaging it is to try and shut down any conversation they dislike. All those people who have been shouting “bOtH sIeDs” so much their keyboards started to bleed should feel like shit right now. Your pathetic attempt to crush discussion hurt you and the rest of us. Discussion = good. Even if it’s uncomfortable. Remember it.

Yeah, some people did, but nearly every discussion on here was full of 95% idiots screaming about how we need to pretend like biden is so incredible because we have to trick the undecided people into living him because trump is going to resurrect Hitler and march everyone to the depths of hell.

It’s hard to compare apples to apples because of a change in the way things were measured, but by best estimates Biden got a comparable uncommitted vote share to Obama in 2012.

Not if you have a strong, popular and charismatic leader like Obama. So, umm… y’all got any of those besides AOC?

I mean, I’ll take AOC, but I’m not sure if the Dems are up for such a young president (which would be so fucking rad, tbh).

If only they let other candidates get the same amount of ballot access in the primaries that Biden got instead of running a sham primary and having the most nationally popular democrats abstain from even running in it.

If Democrats listened to their constituents, they could have forseen the need to replace Biden. Im positive Newsom and Williamson would have ran in the primaries if they knew it was going to come down to replacing Biden anyway. The only reason they didn’t was to hold the party line and show unity. Well they made their bed, and now the whole country has to lie in it.
