A game jam for the fediverse community from July 14th to July 23rd! Anyone is welcome to join and all of the main communication about the jam will be taking place within the fediverse
Open sourcing games you make for it is recommended so people in the community can learn from what you did. Youll also be able to show off your game around the fediverse communities while the jams running and after it ends
More information can be found in the linked jam page as well as the button to hit to sign up
Hope you enjoy! :)
Looking at the calendar, I’m currently free on those dates so fingers crossed that stays the case.
Reasonably experienced although very slow Unity dev, very very new Godot dev, sort of becoming ok at the low poly 3d look in Blender although I have no artistic imagination and need to work from reference images mostly. Halfway decent at making UI look acceptable due to background in web design.
UK timezone. Middle-aged grump. Not a fan of making shooty games if it can be at all avoided.
If any of that amazing list of skills sounds useful to you, drop me a DM and maybe we can work together 😄
What about analog game developers? Can we participate too and upload a PDF of the game? i.e. a ruleset for a short tabletop game or a print-and-play game?
Yeah that should be able to work, Ive seen it done in Ludum Dare before. I can edit the jam page in a bit to say its allowed
Excellent! I participated in a jam a couple years ago on itch.io, and though I got ahead of myself trying to learn enough Unity and Blender in one week to make a game and though the game didn’t come to fruition… I had a good time and learned a lot.
Looking forward to doing it again. In moderation.
That’s most of my experience with jams too. Not actually finishing but at least learning some stuff is basically my expectation going in, these days :D
If I remember I’m down 🤘
Will we publish our games in itch.io or is there going to be some new federated way to do it?
Any chance we can get a relative link that lets that tab finder thread open via my instance? I’m not sure how to structure the URL for that yet.
Relative post links dont exist currently (they technically do its just not predictable since its a random number id). You should be able to search for the community using !gamedev@programming.dev and then get the post from there
It’s sadly not a thing. Currently being looked into by the devs I believe. You can only do the relative links for communities and users atm.
I found a firefox extension that helps with that: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lemmy-instance-assistant/ If you are on Chrome it probably has extensions too.
