Hello internet,

So I’ve been seeing a lot of hype regarding Sync for Lemmy these past months, but I don’t know why. What’s so special about Sync for Reddit that I should I be looking forward to it for Lemmy? I never actually tried to sync for Reddit while I was on, well Reddit. Looking for some insight.

Aside from that, y’all have a great day.

It was just an outstanding interface. Highly customizable, easy to navigate, and performed well. It did cool stuff like useful messages when Reddit was down. The search function worked far better than Reddit. Feed curation was easy.

Basically just a very good app.

Used it for many years, and it’s the only app i miss after switching from android to ios. I wish they would develop it for both.

Reddit didn’t have an official app back in the day, so when I signed up I had to try out a bunch. Sync was, in my opinion, the best option available. I had to customize it, but it had every option I needed to do so. It also made it very easy to see all of my subscriptions, and it had an option to sort them by visit count. I’m very excited for next week.

This is pretty much my same story. After trying 4 different apps, I landed on Sync. It had the right balance of customization, design, and usability that none of the others had for me.

It was a really pleasant user experience with a lot of useful features. You had options for various layouts/views to scroll how you’re comfortable, you could easily find specific subs you’ve visited recently or most often and even posts/comments that you’ve interacted with. Sharing content was also easy and I could send images instead of just links. I really enjoyed the interface too so it’ll be nice to use something I enjoy and am familiar with

I’ve tried it once. You’re right, it’s nothing special.

I much prefer Relay but its developer hasn’t announced any plans to make a Lemmy version, so I’ve been using Connect in the meantime. It’s alright but the navigation is janky. So many unnecessary extra taps to do things in comparison to Relay (such as collapsing a comment thread), and navigation feels clunkier overall, especially when you’re trying to close a thumbnail preview. No tablet mode, no upvote/downvote tallys, and you can’t preview your comment as you’re typing it, either.

Come on /u/DBrady, get your shit together and port Relay over already. Quit wasting your time trying to set up a subscription model with the reddit admins. Fuck them.

I’m looking forward to this then. I landed on Joey for several years, coming back to it after my 2 year experiment with Apollo when I tried IOS. glad to know that moving back to android gives me an opportunity to try this app.

Yeah I loved Joey. Been using connect for now since moving to lemmy, tried jerboa first and it’s good but lacking some features connect has. I used sync for reddit before I switched to joey though so it’ll be nice and familiar.

It also had “sync” function where i could download frontpage with comments on wifi in a year where i didnt have mobile data plan or were in place with crappy internet coverage.

It’s not that special compared to other 3rd party Reddit app, but it’s still a very mature app and it’s good to get it for Lemmy.

Jerboa is nice but it’s not at the level of those reddit third party apps.
