Perfect timing honestly. You gotta know when to move on even from your best seller.

It’s just unfortunate that Larian will most likely not be doing BG4 if there is one. Corporate greed ruined it for everyone again. For anyone who isn’t aware Wizards of the Coast basically screwed all of Larian over.

How so? Last I remember a lead dev for Larian was disappointed by layoffs happening in WOTC but there was no direct action

“Screwed them over” may have been a bit strong, but as you mentioned WotC laid off a bunch of devs. The important part is that they were devs who working directly with Larian on BG3. This is more likely than not also the reason Larian halted work on BG3 DLC. The public statement was that they lost their motivation, but it’s no coincidence that the DLC was cancelled very close to the layoff announcement. There are also the backhanded remarks that Swen has made about WotC watching him. It really sounds like Wizards is trying to control the narrative and make it look like the parting was amicable.

Makes sense, I have no doubt that they’re trying to separate themselves from WOTC. Your comment made me think Larian had been hamstrung but I feel like they’re at the top of their game.

Yeah, but you see, they stubbornly refuse to do it for free or at least slave wages, and you can only imagine how bad that is for wotc’s shareholder value. Selfish bastards, Larian, demanding to be PAID!

Yeah, BG4 is dead on arrival for me, but on the other hand I am glad Larian continues to exist and does not have to bow to some corporate entity. Instead of BG4, I am looking forward to their next project then. And even if they would do BG4, it’s hard to top BG3, so I can understand moving on to a new project without fan expectations other than the high regard for Larian.

I hope we get something akin to Neverwinter Nights modules systems, so that we can replay this game for the next twenty years, using new modules we got from the workshop or some other modding avenue.

I started working in games around 2006, and up until the mid 2010’s it was a regular occurrence for designers to use NWN modules as their resumes.

I think bg3 would do even better for people, very excited.

Makes sense. Glad they’re just being honest and setting realistic expectations.
