I’ve already posted before but deleted account on .world because they are federated with anti-commie stuff so I moved my cheeks here.

I moved countries over three years ago when a homophobe moved into a flatshare I lived in and made me feel unsafe. I couldn’t find housing anywhere else so when I got a job offer in another country I jumped in. Then after three years I couldn’t find housing there and my landlord sold so I jumped on a job offer in another country. I have a month and a half to find housing but I’ve been already looking for the equivalent with no responses. I don’t seek advice, I’ve been renting since I turned 18 and tried everything. It’s extremely hard to rent anything when you have a foreign sounding name. Even in countries of which language I speak natively I got no responses or sparse, especially in comparison to people with local sounding names. My coworker who is a local found housing in a day. My non local coworkers struggle for months. One even paid someone a thousand euros just to have them recommend for housing.

I really dreamt of living alone in a tiny studio so I never have to fear homophobes in my own home again. I even applied for flatshares but also no response but I’d love to avoid them if possible. Queer flatshares tend to be borderline unsafe to live or you live with the landlord and I have bad experience where a gay landlord made advances towards me and the power imbalance and fear of homelessness is not fun…

I just needed to vent. Cheers.

    Go full Diogenes /s

But seriously you should reach out to a local homeless shelter, your municipality/social services and to friends who can lend a couch. You could rent a two bedroom place jointly with a local, as that might give you preferential treatment by proxy.

    • I actually moved into the current country a month ago and don’t speak the language (my work is fully in English and I’m doing outrageously well, will get promoted in 4 months) so homeless shelter wouldn’t really be an option. I am aware of what flatshares are, thank you very much. :)

Fuck landlords, homophobes, racists, creepy landlords too. So sorry to hear about all you and your coworkers’ awful previous experiences on top of this horrible and unjust situation you’re in right now. I’m beyond terrified of landlords, eviction, and homelessness myself, especially displacing my mother (who is also a target of serious housing discrimination); I think renting is traumatic, but especially for people who experience precarity with it.

    • Thank you for responding. You’ve no idea how much I appreciate it. I have nowhere to go if I don’t find housing and if I have to spend money on AirBnB and shit like this I will probably not have money for a deposit if I ever find anything. I caved in and paid for the premium account on the website which promises to give you extra privileges. I hope it works. The stress is absolutely beyond ruining me.
