Cyclists blame “utterly ridiculous bike prices” for brands’ ongoing struggles, after Giant’s sales slashed again; Visma–Lease a Bike’s cursed 2024 continues; Devastated Arsenal fan turns to… Lance Armstrong; Bargain hunting + more on the live blog
I bought a budget Giant for around $800. I also have a Gravity bike that cost $300. The Gravity is a better bike. Even their budget bikes are overpriced.
I bought a Cube in 2020. I’ve just checked: the equivalent 2024 model, with pretty much identical components, (but a full 3% lighter!!) is exactly 60% more expensive.
Yeah, pass. I can wait another 5 years without a new one.
I bought my Giant Warp DS2 in 2004. I still have it. There it shall remain.
There isn’t a damn thing wrong with it (and it’s motorized now). 26" wheels were good enough for our forefathers, so they’re good enough for me.
I do not fathom people who drop more than 300 bucks on a manual bicycle, you can go to many stores and walk out with an absolutely fine bike for that price, and if you are willing to spend more you can get an e-bike, which is one of the best vehicles ever invented.
