As a Canadian I’m proud of my fellow countrymen for helping and accepting refugees. Although most arrive here with nothing, studies have shown they benefit our society in the long run. They contribute massively to our economy and enrich our culture. They overcome daunting obstacles and become productive members of society, and they make Canada a better, fairer and more inclusive place

They also wash away our culture, and try to change laws to suit their lifestyle.

I’m not opposed to immigration or refugees, I would just prefer they assimilate into our society. Instead they try to turn it into the same shithole they came from (some of them, unfortunately the loud ones).

Your culture? So you’re First Nations? Because those are the only people in Canada with a legitimate claim to having their culture washed away.

Bro our culture is coming over from Europe and committing genocide, the fuck you on about 💀

They’re doing the same fucking thing your ancestors did hundreds of years ago minus the genocide.

They’re part of our culture, we call ourselves a mosaic for a reason. I don’t want a homogenized stale nothing culture, being multicultural is one of Canada’s greatest strengths. You can take that “assimilate” garbage and shove it up your ass. I’d rather have immigrants who bring their own diverse cultures to our country than people like you stinking it up with racist talking points.

Diversity like not respecting women? There are a LOT of cultures that do not respect women. Doyou want that to be part of the mosaic too? I sure don’t.

They can bring the good, but leave the bad.

Whatever. I’m sure you feel very secure in your snide dismissal.

I’ve witnessed it firsthand. I know plenty of women at my work whose quality of life has been degraded because of sexist immigrants harassing them. When I spoke up to them I was harassed in turn. There is a high turnover of new immigrant men at my work because they keep getting fired for harassing women.

I see immigrant men harassing women and showing sexist behavior that isn’t okay in Canada. If saying I don’t want that shit here is racist, then fine. I don’t want that kind of misogynistic sexist asshole harassment behavior in my country.

You know what I’ve witnessed firsthand as a woman? A lot of racist dickheads like you harassing women. Especially immigrant women, though not limited to them. Y’all love to hide behind women when it’s convenient for you to paint a group of people as villains, when in reality you couldn’t give two shits about us when it doesn’t benefit you.

I’ve seen way more immigrant haters harassing women than immigrants. If your issue really is people harassing women then whether they’re an immigrant or not should be irrelevant.

I’m not under any illusions there, but it’s a lot better than India for example which is the largest immigrant group in my area.

I know how sexist rednecks and how many of them there are in small towns. And it’s not okay either. But I see no reason to bring in more men with sexist attitudes.

Sexism is already a problem we’re actively dealing with in Canadian society. We’re going to keep dealing with it, immigrants or not, until it’s no longer a problem (hopefully sooner than later). You’re acting like we’re just letting them be sexist when in your own examples they keep getting fired for their unacceptable behaviour. Eventually, everyone from “sexist immigrants” to “sexist rednecks” are going to learn what is and isn’t accepted in Canadian society.

None of this rhetoric actually supports your racist, anti-immigrant attitude. We’re neither importing a new problem, nor are we allowing immigrants to break our social contract without facing appropriate consequences.

Canada: better than 50C heat and sandstorms. /s

The frostbite thing is awful. I feel like the Canadian government is pretty bad at holistic, helpful services. These pieces that describe how newcomers are dumped with virtually no supports don’t make me feel any better.

      no supports

Do you mean ‘supports’ like struts and crutches, or is this a typo and you meant support programmes and support from neighbours? The two are very different.

      Isn’t that the immigrant life?

When did the culture go from immigrants working their own niche to immigrants asking for more support than the average citizen?

Canada actively tries to find skilled immigrants in other countries, often countries with no concept of Canadian winters. I’m not saying that immigrants deserve “extra”, I’m saying if we’re going to spend money to try and bring in these highly skilled immigrants, we might as well ensure we keep our investment by preparing them for their first winter.
