I have a small dilemma regarding logging a QSO, and I’m wondering if you can guide me through it. I made a contact the other day while doing POTA, but I did not capture the entire callsign. The error was only revealed after I saw their re-spot on the POTA site; if it weren’t for that small glimpse, I would never know, and we’d never confirm in QRZ.
The Eagle Scout in me suggests that I should not change my logs based on the 3rd party information, but my QSO sent me a QRZ confirmation request.
On the other hand, borrowing from aviation, I am keen to “use all available resources”, recognizing that so long as we have the tech and tools, we should use them, even if that may fly in the face of radio purity.

Hmm. I think this is generally fine, but if you were working a contest (like Field Day, for example), it would probably be cheating. I don’t think there’s any problem with taking the Eagle Scout route, though. Holding yourself to a higher standard of honor brings its own rewards.
Thank you. I sat on it for a couple days and have decided to leave it out. I am sure I’ll QSO with that contact again and we’ll be able to confirm.
For POTA contacts I’d just fix it.

A part of this hobby seems to have a focus on rules, and a strictness about abiding by those rules that doesn’t speak to me at all. But I’ve never been attracted to awards, contesting, diplomas. Luckily, the hobby is wide enough for us all to somehow fit into it.
So I clearly would tend towards “use all available resources”, with a hint of “not caring at all actually”. :-)
But of course, if you engage into a contest, then yes, follow the rules.
