    The craziest thing is that in the states, the pro-ruskie types are all from the same political groupings that the Red Scare and McCarthyism came out of.

    In Europe, it at least makes sense on a couple levels. Eastern Europe still has a decent number of people - not a majority as far as I understand it, but a meaningful percentage at least - who are quite pro-Russia because they still feel the historical ties to the Soviet Union, for one reason or another. Not to mention: central and Western Europe thought that the end of the Cold War was the end of the bad old days of serious geopolitical military conflict in general, and were trying to forge a new peace with their eastern neighboring superpower.

    All that said: it’s very frustrating how willfully blind lots of people on both sides of the pond seem to be.
